Downtown Madison, Inc ( DMI ) is THE voice of the central city and was formed over 30 years ago to address decaying conditions in downtown Madison. Today we see the fruits of our labor in our healthy and thriving downtown. We are a not-for-profit advocacy organization that exists for and because of our over 500 members. A great region depends on a strong urban core, and that's where we come in. We represent the interests of businesses, residents, employees and visitors in Madison to ensure that our downtown is a great place to live, work, and visit. DMI has played an instrumental role in the revitalization of downtown Madison. From supporting and advocating for the Monona Terrace and the Overture Center for the Arts to starting the Central Business Improvement District, DMI is a strong, active and involved organization. Inaugurated in 1962, Hilldale Shopping Center is the ultimate destination for brand lovers. This gigantic mall spans across 33 acres (13.35 hectares) and has over 50 stores under its massive roof. Opened in 1970, West Towne Mall was built on a pasture land in a rural location. Soon after the area became a hit with retailers and has been visited by shoppers for decades now. Over the years, the mall underwent changes to keep up with the changing times and is considered to be among the best of its kind in the area. Easily accessible near the highway, it has over 100 stores and a wide variety of options for those who love to shop. Shop, dine, watch a movie or play, you can be sure of an entertaining time at this shopping center.
East Towne Mall was established in the year 1971. It consists of more than 100 shops and a good number of restaurants. A small Barnes & Noble outlet is also found next to the well-laid out food court.
