But wait, there's more!
After announcing their 16-player practice squad on Wednesday, the Denver Broncos are in the process of adding a 17th player on Thursday. As part of the NFL's international player rules, he won't count against the 16-player limit.
Patrick Murtagh (6-6, 250 pounds) is taking a physical, and if he passes, he'll join the Broncos ' practice squad, according to KUSA-TV's Mike Klis . The Australian tight end tried out for the team during mandatory minicamp in June, and he'll now get an opportunity to join the club ahead of the regular season.
Murtagh, 25, was a national-level decathlete before switching to Australian rules football. After three years playing for a developmental VFL team, Murtagh joined the NFL's international player pathway program in 2023. He was originally designated to the Detroit Lions but had to withdraw due to a medical issue.
Last year, Murtagh joined the Jacksonville Jaguars . He was placed on the waived/injured list coming out of training camp and then spent the season on injured reserve. Murtagh returned to the Jags this spring, only to be waived in May. It's a low-risk move for Denver as the international tight end does not take one of the 16 practice squad spots.
