The New York Jets have released WR Xavier Gipson — who was responsible for a costly error versus the Pittsburgh Steelers .
Gipson's untimely fumble to start the fourth quarter, while fortunate for the Steelers , has seemingly cost him his job, with the Jets announcing his release on Wednesday.
Following Aaron Rodgers ' third-touchdown pass to cut the Jets' lead to 26-24 with 14:57 remaining in the fourth quarter, Steelers RB Kenneth Gainwell stripped Gipson on the kick return — giving Pittsburgh the opportunity to score another touchdown to take the lead — and perhaps ending his Jets roster aspirations.
Pittsburgh will need more than a perfectly timed forced fumble to win games moving forward — as pressure for a long-awaited Steelers Super Bowl run continues to grow with huge roster moves, like the signing of former first-round S Jabrill Peppers .
