Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Darnell Mooney has yet to take the field in 2025, but he helped the team clear some salary cap space before the season kicked off last week. According to ESPN's Field Yates, the Falcons freed up around $6 million in cap space by restructuring Mooney's contract.
The 27-year-old wide receiver signed a three-year, $39 million deal with Atlanta last offseason, which now looks like a bargain. Prior to his deal being restructured, Mooney had the team's fifth-highest salary cap hit for the 2025 season at approximately $14.5 million.

According to Over The Cap's projections, Mooney's cap hit currently sits at $8,480,000 and the Falcons have around $7.3 million available following the restructure.

The Falcons cleared some much-needed cap space by reworking Mooney's contract, but there's still a large chunk of money going to Kirk Cousins . The veteran quarterback has the team's highest cap hit this season, sitting at $40 million.

Mooney and Drake London are both dealing with shoulder injuries, however, the two wide receivers are expected back at practice on Wednesday. Head coach Raheem Morris said London will likely play in Week 2 against the Minnesota Vikings .
