The Carolina Panthers lost more than just their game to the Buffalo Bills here in Week 8.
Sunday's disappointing 40-9 defeat at Bank of America Stadium featured a handful of injuries for the Panthers, most of which hit their offensive line. One of those gut punches landed to starting right guard Brady Christensen —who, per head coach Dave Canales, sustained what's likely to be a season-ending Achilles rupture.
"Unfortunately, Brady Christensen's got an Achilles," Canales told reporters after the loss. "It's a significant one. He's gonna be out. We're gonna miss him a lot. And just gives me a chance to talk about what he's meant to this group—the flexibility to play all across the line, in different spots, then playing great football for us. So we're really gonna miss Brady."
Christensen had started the last four games at right guard, helping fill the void left behind by the biceps tear to usual starter Robert Hunt—who has been out since Week 3. The 2021 third-round pick returned to the Panthers on a one-year deal this past offseason.
Carolina's trench also got early exits from center Cade Mays and right tackle Taylor Moton , which further complicated an already daunting task for backup quarterback Andy Dalton . So Canales, with the immobile Dalton eating seven sacks, was asked how badly the injuries affected the flow of the offense.
"It made it really challenging, and we tried to find that balance," he replied. "But at the same time, with guys rolling in there—Austin [Corbett] did a good job of stepping in for Cade, that was an ankle. We'll evaluate him more, so we'll have more information on what that looks like. But I thought Austin did a really good job of going in there and settling it down, just getting all our runs and passes and all that targeted the right way.
"So, guys coming in. Yosh [Nijman] coming in for T-Mo. We'll evaluate T-Mo a little more. Right now, it's a knee, and he just wasn't able to finish. Saw some really good rushes out there and thought Yosh would give us a better chance after that point."
In addition to the offensive injuries, the Panthers finished without defensive lineman Derrick Brown and inside linebacker Trevin Wallace . Canales would add that Brown and his knee are "fine," and that Wallace was cleared for a concussion, but was held out with a right shoulder stinger.
