Broncos finally make Dre Greenlaw’s release official, save $8 million
It's finally official.
News broke on Monday that the Denver Broncos planned to release linebacker Dre Greenlaw after re-signing both Alex Singleton and Justin Strnad . However, Greenlaw did not appear on the NFL's transaction wire on Tuesday or Wednesday. That was just a technicality.
The Broncos wanted to designate Greenlaw as a post-June 1 release to create more salary cap relief , and they couldn't do that until after the NFL's new league year kicked off at 2 p.m. MT on Wednesday. But the transaction wire on Wednesday only showed moves that happened before 2 p.m. MT. So the Greenlaw cut didn't show up until Thursday on the transaction wire. It's official now, and Denver will save just over $8 million in cap space.
Greenlaw (6-0, 230 pounds) signed a three-year, $31.5 million contract with the Broncos last spring. He missed the first six games of the season with a quad injury, then he received a one-game suspension after his debut. He later missed the final two games of the regular season with a hamstring injury, missing nine total games in 2025.
Greenlaw recorded 43 tackles, two pass breakups, two quarterback hits, one interception and one sack in the eight games (seven starts) he did play. The 28-year-old linebacker should have suitors now that he's officially available.
