The Bruins returned from the holiday break with fresh legs and plenty of motivation to get back in the win column and end their four-game losing skid.
But a 4-1 loss to the Buffalo Sabres stretched that streak to five.
Prior to their flight to Calgary, the Bruins practiced in Buffalo to try to get back to what worked for the team prior to the losing streak.
“We were due for a practice like that. It’s been a while. Hopefully, guys got the message we delivered this morning,” coach Marco Sturm told reporters Sunday . “I thought it was a good practice.”
Sturm shook up the lines at Sunday’s practice and put David Pastrnak back on the third line with Marat Khusnutdinov and Fraser Minten — a trio that found success together earlier in the season. Alex Steeves moved up to the top line with Morgan Geekie and Elias Lindholm.
It’s unclear if Sturm will keep the practice lines intact for Monday’s game against the Flames.
Sturm said after Saturday’s loss that it’s up to his team to get back to its foundation, and that it starts with a strong practice.
The standings in the Eastern Division are tight, but the Bruins need to string together some wins on this road trip in order to not fall too far back and push themselves farther out of the playoff picture.
