BYU center Abdullah Ahmed will enter the transfer portal

The Abdullah Ahmed experience at BYU has come to an end.

The Cougars’ backup big man plans to enter the transfer portal, he shared Sunday via social media. The news was first reported by Joe Tipton of On3 Sports.

Ahmed, a former G-League player, joined BYU midway through this past season between semesters, making 20 appearances and averaging 1.3 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game.

Aside from his shot blocking, the Egypt native largely struggled on both ends of the floor at BYU, failing to make a single field goal in 14 of 20 contests and never emerging as the bench contributor coaches and fans hoped he would be.

Ahmed will have two remaining seasons of eligibility at his next school.

BYU has now lost seven players to the transfer portal — Xavion Staton , Dominique Diomande , Rob Wright III , Kennard Davis Jr. , Tyler Mrus , KJ Perry and Ahmed.

Collin Chandler is the Cougars’ lone transfer addition thus far in the offseason, with Kevin Young needing to bring in a completely new crew of post players.
