The nightmare start for the New York Mets continues, as with the 4-2 loss to the Chicago Cubs on Saturday afternoon, the team has now lost 10 straight games. While the Mets continue to be without Juan Soto because of a calf injury, there is no doubt surprise from the baseball world on how down the ball club has played, garnering the attention of manager Carlos Mendoza.
With the 10-game losing streak, some could say that the fanbase is "pissed" with the production, or lack thereof, on the field, with the same sentiments echoed by Mendoza. Mendoza would even say that if he were a fan himself, he would be irate as well, according to SNY.
"I mean, they have all the right to be pissed and frustrated. They care just like we do. I mean, we care here. We want to win as much as they do. But again, so much I could say here because we got to go out and do it. I understand how they're feeling. I'll be pissed too. You know, if I'm a fan, I'm pissed they're pissed," Mendoza said.
Carlos Mendoza on what the Mets have been unable to do in the skid
The 10-game skid for the Mets is the longest losing streak for the team since 2004, when the ball club lost 11 consecutive contests, but the offense production has been the storyline for the slide. In the 10-game losing streak, New York has been outscored 60-18, with Mendoza saying that the team has not been able to perform a complete game in every facet.
"We just haven't been able to put a complete game. It's either the offense, started pitching, you know, not making a pitch, not making a play, not getting the big hit, just having a hard time playing a complete game right now," Mendoza said, via SNY.
At any rate, the Mets look to snap the skid as soon as possible with the final game of the series against the Cubs on Sunday afternoon, with the team having a 7-14 record, putting them last in the NL East.
