The status of several Chargers is up in the air for Sunday’s Wild Card game at Gillette Stadium, including first-round running back Omarion Hampton .
Los Angeles has listed six players as questionable: Hampton (ankle), LB Bud Dupree (hamstring), DB Elijah Molden (hamstring), OT Austin Deculus (oblique), TE Tucker Fisk (ankle) and LB Del’Shawn Phillips (hamstring). The Chargers also ruled WR KeAndre Lambert-Smith (hamstring) and S Kendall Williamson (ankle) out.
Hampton is the biggest name on the list, and missed the first two days of practice this week before returning in a limited capacity on Friday. Despite the questionable designation, Hampton told reporters in Los Angeles he was planning on suiting up.
“Yeah, that’s the plan,” Hampton said (via The Athletic’s Daniel Popper).
The first-round pick out of North Carolina (No. 22 overall) has appeared in nine games this year. Hampton has 545 rushing yards on 124 carries, 192 receiving yards on 32 catches and five total touchdowns.
Whether or not Hampton plays, the Patriots defense should get a lift on Sunday as middle linebacker Robert Spillane has been removed from the injury report. New England ’s leading tackler had been sidelined since Dec. 1 with an ankle injury, but is ready to roll for Sunday.
“It means everything to be out there,” Spillane said. “Obviously, you want to be a factor in these games. So that’s the major goal this week. Get healthy, be a good teammate, do whatever I can to be out there on Sunday.
“That’s why you put in all the work for years and years and years to get those chances. So to come out here (during the playoffs) is everything to me.”
