The MVP debate between Drake Maye and Matthew Stafford has some media members split . But for one former Patriots running back, he thinks it’s a no-brainer.
“I think Drake Maye is more valuable to his team than Matthew Stafford is,” Harris said on CBS on Sunday .
Harris argued that Maye has done more with less this season than Stafford, particularly who Stafford throws to every week in Davante Adams and Puka Nacua .
“Not only does he have 14 touchdowns in the low red zone to Devante Adams, he also is throwing one of the best receivers in the National Football League at Puka Nacua, who is at the tops of the receiving list for almost every statistical category,” Harris said . “Drake Maye is throwing to who? Thirty-two year-old Stefon Diggs , the running backs, ... getting the tight ends involved. He’s getting it to everybody is the point. There’s no real superstar pass-catcher for this team, but yet Drake Maye still gets the ball to everybody.”
In New England ’s Week 17 win against the New York Jets , Maye threw five touchdowns to five different receivers. He’s been without Mack Hollins and Kayshon Boutte throughout the year, and Rhamondre Stevenson’s fumbling woes to begin the year were tough to overlook.
Maye finished the 2025 season with 4,394 yards (fourth in the NFL), 31 touchdowns (third) and league-best 77.2 QBR. He also eclipsed the 4,000 passing yard mark and has put his name in the Patriots and NFL history books throughout the season.
Stafford led the league in passing yards with 4,707 and passing touchdowns with 46. The Rams quarterback had 105 more passing attempts more than Maye.
