One of life's sad realities is that not all unions, even marriages, tend to work out. Divorces, separations, and annulments are common among married couples, and it's also something that happens between two high-profile individuals.
Perhaps the main difference is that when two famous people get together and their relationship doesn't work out for whatever reason, it gets magnified and placed in the public eye.

Such is a common occurrence for professional athletes and celebrities, especially when it's a marriage between the two.
Take, for example, NBA Champion Iman Shumpert
and singer-songwriter/actress Teana Taylor.
The reason for Shumpert and Taylor's split
Shumpert and Taylor married in 2016 but unfortunately filed for divorce in 2023. In the settlement, she came away with four houses worth about $10 million, including their home in Alpharetta, Georgia, as well as a number of automobiles and a cash payout.

And while it's easy to assume that infidelity would be a key factor, Taylor argued that wasn't the case.
"In all fairness, Iman and I are separated and have been for a while. To be 1000% clear, 'infidelity' ain't one of the reasons for our departure,"
Taylor clarified
on a now-deleted Instagram post. "We are still the best of friends, great business partners, and are one hell of a team when it comes to co-parenting our two beautiful children."
So what was the cause of the split?

According to reports, jealousy became the root of their eventual separation.
Shumpert, who last played in the NBA in 2021, was reportedly
feeling inadequate as Taylor began to find success in Hollywood as a singer and actress. It reportedly came to a point that Taylor began to refuse bookings just so she could fix their marriage, but ultimately, their union was unsalvageable.
Before getting together with Shumpert, Taylor was briefly engaged to former NBA player Brandon Jennings
.

She has also appeared on multiple television programs, most recently joining the cast of Saturday Night Live as a guest host.
Since 2014, Taylor has also released four music albums, with the most recent released in 2025.
