The Patriots capped off the 2025 season with a 38-10 win over the Miami Dolphins and a 14-3 record.
It’s been a remarkable turnaround from their 4-13 season last year under Jerod Mayo . But despite the success they had in 2025, first-year coach Mike Vrabel delivered a message to his team after Sunday’s win as they prepare for the playoffs .
“Here’s what happens: The whole thing restarts,” Vrabel said . “It starts all over. You put yourselves in a great position, and I’m proud of you. We set out to improve. I know we did. We took a little nap there in the second quarter, but we came out in the second half determined to improve, and you did.
“But we’re starting over, and that’s what happens in this thing,” he continued . “Because now, if you have a nap … so, no naps. No naps. Stick together. I love watching you celebrate. I love watching you guys play. I got the best seat in the house over there.
“Check in now for any injuries,” Vrabel concluded . “Take care of your bodies, because now it really starts. The tournament has begun.”
The Patriots host the Los Angeles Chargers in the AFC Wild Card game on Sunday night. The two teams did not face one another in the regular season, and the Chargers will go into Gillette Stadium well rested after benching their starters in Week 18 against the Denver Broncos .
New England ’s offense has been incredibly productive this season, but it will be tested against a Chargers defense that ranked ninth in the NFL in points allowed this season.
With a Sunday night game , the Patriots will have a full week of practice and won’t need to change anything around. They’ll use the week to “get to know” the Chargers and prepare for their first playoff game since 2021.
