The San Diego Padres are currently under .500 with a 45-46 record. The Padres' lineup has underperformed , which has played a huge role in the team's overall struggles. Recently, the Padres were urged to trade star closer Mason Miller by MLB analyst Steve Phillips. MLB analyst Jim Bowden also addressed the idea, as he explained why the Padres could consider moving Miller before the MLB trade deadline on Wednesday, via Foul Territory.
The Padres do not have as many top prospects to trade for stars. Instead of looking to buy, San Diego could sell and trade Miller to get some top prospects once again.
"That's where the talks started of, maybe it's time to move Mason Miller and turn him into four players and try to plug some holes, not just for this year, but for future years," Bowden said.

Miller, 27, is the best closer in the game at the moment. He holds a stellar 0.96 ERA this season to go along with a league leading 23 saves. He is certainly not to blame for the Padres' overall struggles. Miller has done everything he can to help San Diego win games.
The Padres' performance over the next couple of weeks will go a long way toward determining their trade deadline strategy. They are 14 games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers for first place in the National League West, but San Diego is only 4.5 games back of an NL Wild Card spot.
If the Padres continue to underperform, the Mason Miller trade rumors will continue to grow louder.
