After defending Steve Wilks throughout the season, Jets coach Aaron Glenn announced the defensive coordinator was fired.
“I relieved Steve Wilks of his duties this morning,” the Jets coach told reporters .
Chris Harris, New York ’s defensive backs coach, will serve as the interim defensive coordinator.
“It’s a decision that I made late last night,” Glenn said . “I felt like it was the best decision for the organization at this time.”
Through 15 weeks, the Jets defense has not had an interception.
The move came after the Jets were blown out, 48-20, by the Jacksonville Jaguars . The 48 points were a season-high allowed by New York.
It’s been a trying season for the Jets , who will finish 2025 with a losing record for the 10th straight year. Despite the struggles, Glenn vocally defended Wilks.
“I’ve been in that position before, and to me, I was fortunate enough to have a coach ( Detroit Lions’ Dan Campbell ) who believed in me the same way I believe in Wilks,” Glenn said just six days ago.
The Jets travel to New Orleans to play the Saints in Week 16 before welcoming the New England Patriots to MetLife Stadium in Week 17. They’ll close out the season on Jan. 4 against the Buffalo Bills .
