FOXBOROUGH – The Patriots are keeping a veteran offensive lineman around a little longer.
On Tuesday, the team signed backup offensive lineman Ben Brown to a 2-year contract extension worth up to $6.6 million, according to a source. Brown, 27, joined the organization last season and turned out to be a great find for the organization. The veteran has started games for the Patriots at center and left guard.
Brown was scheduled to be a restricted free agent next offseason. Now, the Patriots secure more depth in the future for their offensive line.
Brown entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2022. He spent time in Cincinnati , Seattle , Arizona , and Las Vegas . Last season, the Patriots signed Brown off the Raiders’ practice squad after center David Andrews suffered a season-ending injury.
Brown started 10 games for the Patriots at center, helping stabilize the position after the team lost a captain and leader. This year, Brown has been the Patriots’ top interior backup on the offensive line. He’s made two starts at left guard and played in 15 games total. The team also uses him as a tight end eligible extra blocker.
Brown has played 206 offensive snaps this season. He started at left guard in Week 4 against Carolina and again in Week 13 against the New York Giants . He also stepped in and played 95.8% of the snaps in Cincinnati when starting left guard Jared Wilson suffered an ankle injury.
On Tuesday, the Patriots rewarded Brown for his efforts.
