The bats have suddenly fallen silent for the Philadelphia Phillies .
A day after they got shutout in a 6-0 loss to the San Francisco Giants , the Phillies got blanked anew, as they suffered a 5-0 defeat at Oracle Park in San Francisco on Wednesday .
Going back to the first game of the Giants series (which Philadelphia won, 6-4), the Phillies have not scored a run in 20 consecutive innings, marking an embarrassing lowlight the club had not seen in over a decade.
“First time in 11 years the Phillies have had two lopsided shutouts like this back to back. Haven’t scored a run in 20 innings. The Phillies have scored just 9 runs over their last 5 games, John Clark of NBC Sports Philadelphia shared on X (formerly Twitter).
Clark also noted that the Phillies have not won a series in San Francisco in 13 years.
Wednesday’s game saw both the Phillies and the Giants struggle at the plate, but San Francisco broke a scoreless tie in the sixth inning with a three-run home run by first baseman Rafael Devers .
The Phillies left nine men on base and went 0-for-5 with a runner in scoring position. They recorded just four hits and struck out 10 times. Aaron Nola took the pitching loss, allowing three earned runs on five hits with a walk and three strikeouts in six innings of work on the mound.
Philadelphia dropped back to .500 with a 6-6 record after the loss to the Giants. The Phillies hope that a change of scenery will spark their offense as they fly back home for a three-game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, beginning on Friday.
