The Philadelphia Phillies will be going up against the San Francisco Giants in the final game of their series, and they'll be looking to break the tie. Unfortunately, they'll have to do so without JT Realmuto, who got hit in the foot with a foul ball in the first inning of their latest game against the Giants.
The good news is that the X-rays came back negative on his foot, but it's uncertain when he'll return to the field. Manager Rob Thomson shared an update on Realmuto , and he's still feeling the effects from the injury, according to Matt Gelb of The Athletic.
" J.T. Realmuto is pretty sore still, Rob Thomson said. The backup catcher today is … probably Dylan Moore ? This is my chance to soft launch an Emergency Third Catcher designated for every big-league city. How cool would that be," Gelb wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
The hope is that Realmuto is not out for an extended period of time, but it doesn't seem like there's much to be worried about.
The Phillies made the decision to re-sign Realmuto to the team, and the one thing many people were concerned about was his health. The veteran hasn't had that many injuries, but the older you get, some of the small things can become big in no time. Luckily for this latest injury, it sounds like he can come back soon, but nothing is set in stone.
For now, the Phillies will have to work with what they have, and hopefully they can stay afloat for however long he's sidelined.
