The Philadelphia Phillies placed left-handed pitcher Tanner Banks on the injured list, the team announced Thursday .
"Prior to tonight's game against the Cincinnati Reds, the Phillies placed LHP Tanner Banks on the 15-day injured list with a left forearm strain. To fill his spot on the 26-man roster, RHP Chase Shugart was recalled from triple-A Lehigh Valley," the Phillies wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
Banks has struggled this season, pitching to a 7.14 ERA across 28 relief appearances. Nevertheless, he has displayed the ability to find success in the past. In 2025, he turned in a 3.07 ERA across 69 outings with the Phillies.

Shugart, meanwhile, is set to receive another big league opportunity. He has made 26 appearances with the Phillies this year, turning in a 4.97 ERA during that span.
These moves were announced just one day after Lou Trivino III was placed on the IL and Brad Keller returned from injury .
The Phillies have turned their season around following a slow start to the campaign. They will likely look to improve the roster before the upcoming MLB trade deadline. Addressing the bullpen will surely be one goal, while Philadelphia also needs to add another bat or two. Additionally, acquiring a starting pitcher would not be a bad idea.
With all of that being said, their current roster has played a crucial role in turning the season around. Don Mattingly's performance as the interim manager has helped matters as well.
The Phillies are set to play the Reds in Cincinnati on Thursday night at 7:10 PM EST.
