The Pittsburgh Pirates are making a flurry of roster moves ahead of a doubleheader Saturday against the powerful Milwaukee Brewers . The Bucs are moving rookie star Konnor Griffin from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day injured list, per the team.
Griffin is dealing with a finger injury that is likely keeping him out of the lineup until at least September. It is a hard blow to a Pirates team hoping to reach the postseason this year, for the first time since 2015.
Pittsburgh is also designating for assignment pitcher Cam Sanders . The Pirates are also adding infielder Jacob Gonzalez and pitcher Brandon Eisert to the team roster. Both players were recently obtained in a trade from the Chicago White Sox.

Gonzalez is seen as someone who can help replace Griffin in the infield, while the team awaits the rookie's return. This season in Chicago, Gonzalez is hitting at a .244 batting average.
Pirates hoping to find wins
Pittsburgh needs to win a lot more games in order to return to the postseason, for the first time in more than a decade. Pittsburgh's bullpen has been beat up quite a bit this season. Eisert will get his chance to help out in the pen.
Pittsburgh's pitching has taken a step back this season. Young hurler Bubba Chandler has struggled, while so has ace Paul Skenes . Skenes recently got roughed up badly in a Pirates loss to the Philadelphia Phillies .
While the pitching has been inconsistent, Pittsburgh's hitting this season has been pretty darn good. New Pirates addition Ryan O'Hearn has been a spark plug ; he hit three home runs in a recent game against the Atlanta Braves . O'Hearn also drove in 10 runs in that contest.
Pittsburgh is 47-47 on the year. The Bucs are fourth in the NL Central. Pittsburgh hosts two games against the Brewers Saturday, starting at 12:05 ET.
