Quarterback says Broncos have a bright future after brief stint with team

Denver Broncos third-string quarterback Ben DiNucci had a whirlwind second stint with the team.

DiNucci was working for CBS Sports as a commentator when the team lost starting quarterback Bo Nix to a season-ending ankle injury . One day after he broke down the Nix news on television , DiNucci received a call from the Broncos with an offer to join their practice squad .

Denver had familiarity with DiNucci from his time with the club in 2023, and he returned to the team last week to serve as QB3 behind fill-in starter Jarrett Stidham and promoted QB2 Sam Ehlinger . Unfortunately, the Broncos were not able to advance to the Super Bowl without Nix, falling to the New England Patriots 10-7 in the AFC title game.

Following that loss, Denver has started signing practice squad players to reserve/future contracts. DiNucci hasn't received a reserve/future deal, so it looks like his second stint with the team will be short-lived. He shared this message to Broncos Country following Sunday's loss:

If he does not receive a reserve/future contract from Denver in the coming days, DiNucci's practice squad contract will expire on Monday and he will become a free agent. The 29-year-old quarterback has spent time with five NFL teams during his career, appearing in three regular season games. His time with the Broncos might be coming to an end, but DiNucci's pro football career probably isn't over just yet.
