The Red Sox need to add a big bat to their lineup this offseason and have been linked to Kyle Schwarber .
Schwarber is a free agent after spending the last four seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies . He’s expected to have several teams interested in him — especially after a 56-home-run season in 2025.
ESPN’s Jeff Passan provided an update on Schwarber’s market and noted the Red Sox “remain in the mix” for the designated hitter.
“Schwarber’s market is healthy. He’s going to get years, and he’s going to get AAV, and at this point, he might be the likeliest of the big free agents to sign first,” the MLB insider posted on Threads . “Unclear if something gets done before the (winter) meetings, but I’d be surprised if they end and he doesn’t have a team. The Phillies remain the favorite, with Boston , Cincinnati , the Mets and others in the mix.”
The winter meetings begin Dec. 7 and wrap up Dec. 10.
Schwarber played 41 games for Boston after a trade from the Washington Nationals in 2021. He quickly became a fan favorite on and off the field.
He signed with the Phillies in 2022 and has been a staple in their lineup. In four seasons, the power hitter has a .226 batting average with 187 homers and 434 RBI. Schwarber’s 56 homers and 132 RBI last season led the National League.
While the Red Sox need a right-handed bat, too, adding Schwarber to the lineup would certainly bring some offense the team was missing in 2025.
