While much of the focus of the Texas Longhorns No. 1 transfer portal class has been on star wide receiver Cam Coleman , UT coach Steve Sarkisian says another portal WR signing is making plays in spring practice. Sark is singing the praises of Sterling Berkhalter .
The Longhorns signed Berkhalter from Wake Forest . His career started at North Carolina A&T . Berkhalter then transferred to Cincinnati, his hometown, before landing in Winston-Salem for the 2025. He had 30 catches, 416 yards (13.9 yards/catch) and 2 TDs for the Demon Deacons .
At 6-foot-3, 203-pounds, he has the size to excel in Sark's offense. Sark says Berkhalter has fit in quickly because he's a veteran that played in a similar offensive system.
"He brings experience," Sark said on Tuesday. "He played a very similar system at Wake Forest and had a very productive year last year for them. I think the experience. I think the understanding schematically of what we do. I think he brings maturity. He's a very no-nonsense guy. He's very coachable."
With Coleman and Ryan Wingo on the roster, Berkhalter will be looking to get the third receiver spot or become a priority backup. Sark has noticed his play making ability in practice.
"The thing that he's been doing this spring is he's been making plays," Sarkisian said. "He's been making plays on 50/50 balls. I feel very comfortable when he's in right now. And I think that's the sense of maturity and confidence and a guy that's been doing it a while. So he's been a very nice addition."
