Justin Sourdif (WSH) scores goal against (MIN) to make it 1-5

Justin Sourdif has managed just one goal in seven games this season, but after an illness sidelined him for Washington’s last two contests, the young forward is taking steps toward a return.

The Washington Capitals gave a lot of money and committed a lot of term to two relatively unproven players, but that doesn't mean those contracts were even remotely bad ideas.

Former Florida Panthers third-round draft pick Justin Sourdif signed an eight-year, $6.35 million AAV contract with the Washington Capitals.

Four major deals were finalized in a frantic late-night rush as teams scrambled to beat the league's new contract rules.

The Washington Capitals are entering the 2026-27 season with a revamped forward group and plenty of reason for optimism.
