Some breaking news this morning from the Los Angeles Rams: "Here to stay," with the ever, always amazing handshake emoji.
"We've signed extensions with head coach Sean McVay and GM Les Snead."
I think one thing that we should at least keep in mind is that we're not that far removed from conversations that were being had about whether or not Sean McVay wanted to walk away, whether or not he wanted to spend more time with kids, like, things we've talked about openly on this show.
What's the future of Sean McVay?
We just got a very clear answer from the Rams on what that future is.
And there was some concern, or just at least conversation or discussion, would If Aaron Don- Donald decided to walk away, would Sean McVay also entertain that as well?
But he talked this past off-season and said it, it felt pretty crazy to think about a world without coaching football, and this is just confirmation for that.
Now, if you're a Rams fan, I think you can kind of breathe a sigh of relief in that, right?
But there's still a question mark moving forward of what this Rams team future looks like.
What does Matthew Stafford's future look like?
And everything that I've heard from anyone who has been a coach or a general manager in football has said, if you're talking to a player who's aging, who's in that kind of era of his career, you say, "Take as much time as you need.
Take the kids, take the wife, go to Cabo, go to the Bahamas, go enjoy, go to the beach.
Go, just take some time to reflect."
Because I'm sure Matthew Stafford right now is thinking, "That was a grind of a season.
I'm banged up, I'm exhausted, I'm hurt, I'm emotionally and just physically drained."
Take some time.
Don't make a rash decision.
But I do think that Rams fans will be waiting with bated breath for what Matthew Stafford's future is, but at least they do have some certainty of what their head coach's future looks like.
I, I think that's the biggest key, Caroline, because at some point, for me, when I look at this, it's all about making sure that if Matthew Stafford decides, "I'm done.
I don't wanna play anymore"- Yeah ... then what?
At least you know now, all right, the coach and GM aren't going anywhere.
Yeah.
So whatever, like, now I think we get a, a bigger picture with the long-term extension for both, that the Rams are going to have to start making long-term plans at the quarterback position.
I think that's part of why you do all this right now, to assure everybody involved, "Hey, there's, there's, nothing's gonna change for us.
We're gonna make sure that this franchise continues to run with the same level of stability.
It's just we need to make sure that we've got coach and GM locked up for whatever the future looks like at the quarterback position," because even if Stafford comes back for a year, I We're just, we're year to year at this point.
Every year is gonna be a new question mark about what the future of the position is, until they can successfully address it in the draft or with a young free agent that can come in.
