Start 'Em, Sit 'Em: Look to Ladd in Week 7!
Yahoo Fantasy analysts Matt Harmon and Justin Boone offer sit-start advice for a range of players ahead of Week 7 in fantasy football.
Video Transcript
It's week 7 of the NFL season.
It is time for Justin Boone to give the people some players to start, some players to sit.
Let's hear it.
Who is your player to start here for week 7?
I'm going with an obvious one.
I'm going with Rashid Rice going up against the Raiders.
Fantasy managers have been waiting 6 weeks for this guy.
I promise you, though.
I promise you, it might seem obvious.
I get a ton of questions like this about players of Rashid Rice's caliber, about guys coming back from injuries like C.D.
Lamb.
Should I put him in my lineup?
Yes, you absolutely should.
When you have superstars, I don't care what their situation was.
When they are active, you are putting them out there.
And Rice has just been fantastic in his career, right?
The last 10 games of his rookie season, he was a top 15 fantasy receiver.
Last year, before he got hurt in those first three games, producing like a wide receiver one in those, the team is talking him up as though he's going to come back to be the number one option that they haven't really had this year.
He is going to be a focal point of this passing attack, and he gets to go up against the Raiders in his first game back.
They're giving up the sixth most fantasy points to receivers this year.
So Rashid Rice in your lineup, and all the questions that are to come in on guys like C.D.
Lamb and Mike Evans.
Yes, these stars, if they are playing, you are starting them.
I love it.
I'm glad he's got that match-up against the Raiders.
That really helps me break some ties in favor of being optimistic over Rashid Rice.
That is for sure.
Another guy I am optimistic on, I've been maybe overly optimistic on at times, is Ladd McConkey, but I think you're starting him here in week 7.
He's coming off a big-time game where his head coach Jim Harbaugh literally said he was gonna remember that play that got them into the range to get the game-winning field goal.
Justin Herbert to Ladd McConkey.
He's gonna remember that till they shoveled him, shoveled, shoveled him into the dirt, put dirt on his grave.
Bro.
So you think we're not gonna have Ladd McConkey be the central figure of the passing offense after that?
I'm being facetious, but still, Ladd has definitely trained up the last couple of weeks.
I know, no, Quentin Johnson last week obviously helped, but nevertheless, he is still an important part of this passing game.
Great matchup this week against the Colts.
The Colts secondary is a complete mess.
They've got injuries all over the place.
They're down to like their 6th, 7th, and 8th string cornerback in that secondary.
So I think this is a chance for Lad McConkey to have yet another big week for your fantasy football lineups.
Yeah, even with Quentin Johnson back, I think you could definitely start Lad McConkey.
That passing attack is going to go off in that one.
It should be a fantastic game.
Now, for a guy I'm sitting this week, Tony Pollard against the Patriots, and I'm pretty worried about Tony Pollard's fantasy outlook in general moving forward because this offense hasn't been good.
I don't think the coaching change is going to salvage much here.
They just don't have the talent to produce weekend and.
Week out and that's kind of turned Pollard into like this volume guy basically needs a touchdown.
He's an RB3 play.
Somebody you don't want to have in your lineup most weeks, but this week you definitely are not going to want to play them.
They're big time underdogs going against the Patriots.
Mike Vell, there's some revenge game there for Mike Vell against the Titans.
I think they're going to pile on the points and when the Titans fall behind, they tend to get Tahay Spears more involved.
So that could be a problem in terms of the volume for Pollard in this one.
And he's a guy that's only eclipsed double-digit fantasy points twice this season.
This is not going to be a game where he does that, so you're going to want to get him on your bench for sure.
And just as a side note, maybe go pick up Tahay Spears because I think there's a chance that he's the more valuable back in this backfield the rest of the way.
I love that.
I think that is a great call and good advice from you.
My player to sit for this week.
I'm gonna be bold here and I'm gonna say, I think you can sit AJ Brown this week.
Yes, I know he had the big game last week, and people are starting to get excited.
It's always tough to put a name-brand player like this on your bench, but you guys already know what the floor looks like.
You have seen it out there.
And for this week, it's another really tough spot for AJ Brown and this passing game.
They're going into Minnesota, playing Brian Flores's defense coming off the bye.
Number one, this team does not give up production to wide receivers.
They have 34 catches allowed all season to wide receivers.
Um, shoot.
I mean, AJ Brown, he's already not been productive.
That's not a great sign there.
In addition to that, this whole Eagles passing game, especially because of Jalen Hurts and the way he plays, they tend to struggle against these zone-heavy defenses.
This Vikings defense is one of the most zone-heavy teams in the league.
There are 5 teams right now in the NFL, Justin Boon, who are below 0.3 fantasy points per dropback against zone coverage according to fantasy points data.
Those teams are the Cleveland Browns, the Tennessee Titans, the Cincinnati Bengals, the Miami Dolphins, and the Philadelphia freaking Eagles.
So, not great again, from a matchup standpoint for this whole Eagles passing game.
Again, you gotta be, you gotta be in a tough spot to maybe put AJ Brown on your bench, but I think if you're good enough at wide receiver, I would endorse you doing it for this week.
All right.
Those are our players to start and sit.
Good luck in all your matchups here in week 7.
