The 49ers made a very quick strike.
Ninety minutes into the open negotiating period, they reached contract terms with Mike Evans, a well-decorated Tampa Bay Buccaneer through his first 12 seasons in the NFL.
Yes.
Signing Mike Evans is something that the 49ers really needed to do.
A void that kind of existed throughout the twenty twenty-five season was in that wide receiver room.
They've needed a guy who has been experienced, who knows exactly what Kyle Shanahan is asking for, and is in the right spot for Brock Purdy.
Ricky Pearsall is a guy that they obviously want to have be on the field a little bit more.
He dealt with a PCL injury, so 49ers really needing someone to step up in that wide receiver room.
Brandon Aiyuk, not on the field at all in twenty twenty-five.
So now they move forward with a guy who I know Kyle Shanahan thinks is a very reliable wi- wide receiver, a guy who's going to bring, leadership to the room, up the game of the entire wide receiver room.
I think they got a guy who is, you know, dealt with a little bit of injury in twenty twenty-five, but clearly someone that they have been desiring.
It happened very quickly over the open negotiating period right at the beginning there.
Yeah.
So much for getting younger and faster, but they did get taller and bigger, and- Yeah.
I guess that's a, a big target for, for Brock Purdy.
And, you know, Mike Evans isn't gonna run away from anybody, as, you know, Jauan Jennings never ran away from anybody.
But for that, you know, a six-foot-five, two hundred and thirty-one pounds, a guy that, you know, can make the back shoulder catch, Brock Purdy can put it up, you know, a couple feet above defensive backs and, and see Mike Evans go get it.
So yeah, I mean, he, he's a polished guy, there's no question about it.
A hundred and eight touchdowns in his NFL career.
That ranks tenth all time.
And so, third in Jauan, as, as you and I are talking right now, there's really been no rumblings about where Jennings might be going in free agency.
But third in Jauan has given way to, what?
First, second, third in red zone Mike?
Yeah.
I mean, Mike Evans doesn't get to where he's at without being a really polished route runner, without being exactly where he's supposed to be on the field, and being a great target for whoever has been under center.
And he's been with quite a few different quarterbacks, and he's had a lot of success.
He'll probably always be known as a Tampa Bay Buccaneer, but what he can bring to the table with the 49ers, you know, in an area of need.
You look at, you know I know we talked about it on 49ers Now yesterday, but you look across the roster and there is a guy at every position, except for last year at wide receiver.
You know, there's a leader, a veteran at each position, at each level, and they were really needing it at wide receiver, and now they have it in Mike Evans.
