It may feel like San Francisco's roster is essentially locked in as training camp is just around the corner when veterans report July twenty-fifth.
They don't need any starters per se, but here are five remaining free agents who could step in and provide immediate value in the depth for the forty-niners in twenty twenty-six.
Starting off with the much-talked-about Joey Bosa, the thirty-one-year-old pass rusher, spent last season with the Buffalo Bills.
And while he is coming back from injuries, and they have plagued his recent seasons, Bosa is highly destructive on the edge when healthy.
With Nick Bosa returning from an ACL injury and sophomore Mikel Williams still really rehabilitating his own knee, a cost-effective one-year deal gives Raheem Morris an elite rotational pass rusher.
Number two would be James Daniels, the guard.
He is twenty-eight years old and a veteran who had experience from Chicago and Pittsburgh.
Unlike older options, Daniel still has plenty of prime left in his football tank.
He possesses athletic ability and mobility required to pull and zone block in Shanahan's offense.
Number three, Cameron Curl, twenty-seven years old, is a safety who is more versatile and quietly sitting on the market, capable of playing as a box safety, lining up in the slot or dropping into deep coverage.
He's a strong tackler who produces and diagnoses run fits quickly.
Adding his presence to Morris's secondary would give San Francisco a much needed insurance policy against injury.
For the running back, J.K. Dobbins, Christian McCaffrey had a historic one hundred and four-- four hundred and thirteen touch workload last season, but Shanahan has made it clear that he needs to lessen his workload.
J.K. Dobbins could be the ultimate low-risk, high-reward flyer.
When healthy, Dobbins is an explosive zone scheme runner who averages over five yards per carry.
And finally, cornerback Trevon Diggs.
San Francisco's secondary relies heavily on zone discipline, but adding a pure ball hawk can instantly elevate any defense.
Trevon Diggs is coming off of a turbulent twenty twenty-five season where injuries plagued him as well.
But at just twenty-seven years old, he possesses elite ball skills and the length to disrupt boundary receivers.
Joining a secondary anchored by Fred Warner and a fierce front four could offer Diggs the exact environment he needs to bounce back.
