Back in March 24, Baker signed a three year deal with the Buccaneers, and now that he's in the final year of that contract, he'd like to get an extension done.
Yesterday, the two-time Pro Bowl quarterback gave reporters an update on where things stand with the possible new deal.
Pretty much the same, but for me, like I told you guys, it's not going to affect how I approach this.
Um, things will happen when they should, but for now, I'm worried about getting better each day, finishing mini camp in this offseason program the right way and, uh, going into, going into training camp.
So, yeah , just handle it one day at a time.
The Baker Mayfield journey has been a wild saga, right?
You saw him talking to a little kid there, or I shouldn't say little kid, a, a high schooler that was talking about not having any offers and what are you doing?
He's like, you know, you just need one person to believe in you.
Mitch, we'll start with you.
What do you think about the Baker Mayfield journey?
Hometown kid central Texas, so I got a little soft spot for Baker Mayfield from the jump that being said, I don't know everyone here with kids, you try to , you try to find books that you can actually get through without wanting to, you know, throw up, but also just ones that have great.
Stories and and great lessons in life and this this story, this journey of Baker Mayfield is like a book I wanna read my kids and I'm in the middle of reading it, right?
He's a kid who came in from no offers.
We just heard it talking to that young man goes to Texas Tech and then guess who shows up?
Davis Webb and a guy named Patrick Mahomes.
So he goes and bets on.
Off and walks on at Oklahoma.
Then he becomes the first overall pick and a Heisman Trophy winner, and then he goes to the trials and tribulations of the Cleveland Browns, and he goes to the Carolina Panthers, Rams for a few weeks, and then ends up at Tampa Bay and Through that, those ebbs and flows, he bet on himself.
He had that character arc.
He learned a lot.
And in the I'm in the middle of this book reading to my kids and I still feel like we haven't reached a crescendo of it like there's something else there's something really cool at the end and hopefully for me it's not the contract, it's not this, it's that this man who's gone through a lot and has grown so much brings a Super Bowl.
Hopefully Tampa, but whatever team he's a part of because he's that special and has gone through that much in his career, I'm a huge fan of him.

I, I love Baker Mayfield.
I think what makes Baker Mayfield so special is he's relatable, you know, when you, when you're looking at superheroes, one of my favorite superheroes is Batman, and the reason why I love Batman is Batman doesn't, he can't fly.
He doesn't have laser vision he doesn't have like supreme like this godly strength he's just a human being that shows no quit and that's Baker, you know, and for for kids I, I think it's so fitting that that one young man asked him.
What kind of advice do you have for somebody with zero offers because the reality is Baker can relate to that.
He's like, Man, I was that guy, right?
So if you look at Baker Mayfield and Baker Mayfield didn't have the recognizable face that he has and he's walking through the grocery store, you wouldn't know that Baker Mayfield is one of the best quarterbacks in the National Football League, and that's what's so amazing for him.
I mean, we talked about Justin Herbert, we talked about Josh Allen.
When you see those cats like 6'4, 6'5, you're like, I don't know what you do, but you do something.
If Baker were to walk through, you're like.
The guy's just a dad, but to watch him on the field and watch how he plays, how he suns a lot of guys like the guys that stature wise should just be dominating, Baker's Baker's the one doing the dominating.
And so that's what I love about Baker is he's relatable, he's ins he's inspirational.
He inspires me just watching him play with the type of tenacity and heart and like no quit that he does.
I mean if there's we're, we're we work for Disney, if there was a Disney story like you could just say the Baker Mayfield story, and that would probably be one of the most watched Disney, um, animations of all time just because of what he's done in his career, the ebbs and flows of it.
I love everything Baker Mayfield, OG, yeah, I mean, I'm, I'm, I'm with you guys, man.
He's been through a lot.
Anything that, uh, these young guys can ask him or anything that, uh, a guy can ask him, he's probably been through it in his career, um, from being benched to being, you know.
From team to team to team to being, being, you know, a $100 million guy, you know, so, um, I'm big on, on, on how he, you know, how he carries himself, um, how he presents himself, um, he, he has charisma, he has aura, he has all those things that the young guys talk about nowadays, right?
What they call it, uh, aura maxing, whatever it is, aura farming, farming, that's what it is, yeah, he has that, he has that, uh, you know, I've been a big fan of his ever since I saw him do the dougie and the whip and the na na and all.
All that stuff at Oklahoma.
I've been a huge fan of his, man.
Shout out to Baker Mayfield.
I hope he gets the contract that he deserves, um, and keep playing football for a long time, man, because he's fun to watch.
I don't believe there's anybody in Tampa that doesn't think he's not going to get the contract he deserves.
I think the Buccaneers know it, but I want to go back to what Mitch was saying about a book you're reading to your kids because I do have a kid's Baker Mayfield story.
I have a young son who is a soccer player and we went to this tournament where the, the level certainly went up a notch, and he was like, Oh, I'm not as good, and he is.
is good, but he, he does not have the Baker mentality, and I made him sit in our car and I pulled up Kids These Days, not a book, but a YouTube version of Baker as the underdog.
I made him sit there and watch, you know, someone narrating this.
They counted them out, they counted them out.
And so in our house, so we're sitting in the back of this car and it was freezing and he didn't want to play, and I'm like, hey, if somebody says Baker's not good enough, I go, do you think Baker cares?
I'm like, you need to be a Baker.
And in our house it started this whole thing where before he goes out to soccer games, and I'm in Tampa, I haven't never told Baker this, but.
Like grab his jersey and I go, go be a baker because we watch this be a baker if little breezy, if little breezy is at home watching right now , and he probably isn't because he doesn't wanna watch his mom, but he knows that we're like, be a baker.
It's an example to kids of like I go, he, this guy, you know, you sit there and get rattled if someone thinks you're not good enough.
This guy thrives on people telling him he's not good enough, even when they're no longer saying that he's not good enough.
That's what he thrives on and I'm like you.
Have to have that grit and believe in yourself when nobody else does because that is how this guy has gotten to this level.
And I want to say one more thing when you're talking about Batman, you know what Batman did have going for him?
He had a lot of cool toys and Baker comes to Tampa and he had Chris Godwin and Mike Evans and he had some good running backs and uh we'll see how that works out with Mike Evans now in San Francisco, but they got some young up and coming receivers there where they've, I think, replenished, uh, the toys that they have in that receiver room.
