"GMFB" play a round of big deal or no big deal and debate the Buffalo Bills play six games on a short week in 2026.
Video Transcript
No big deal in GMFP.
We got a loaded table, loaded breakfast table here today.
It's a big deal.
The Buffalo Bills are inspecting their schedule.
They are looking to get over the hump of the playoffs this season finally with Josh Allen at the helm, and they're gonna have to do that with the 8th toughest schedule in the league.
Now, as we look at their schedule, you see a lot of bold games, which implies that prime time fancy matchup.
You're getting the standalone treatment.
However, with that comes oftentimes a short week.
You got to practice.
You got to travel.
You've got to play on a Thursday night or a Sunday night or a Monday night, and therefore that shortens everything up for you.
So big deal or no big deal, the Buffalo Bills will play 6 games, Manti, this season on a short week.
What was their strength of schedule, Jamie?
8th 8th, 8th toughest.
Well, that, that, that's, that's determined on who they play, not when they play, because when they play, they could go up to like it should have been up to like 3, because when you think about.
The Buffalo Bills and who they are.
Last year they had two short weeks.
They had 25 guys on IR and 44 that missed games, at least one game.
So when you look at this team, I also think there's a component of who their head coach is.
Joe Brady is a first-time head coach, and whenever you have a team that has a brand like the Buffalo Bills and you're going against these short weeks, for people at home, this is what the week looks like.
We play on Sunday, Monday we come in, we watch film, we recover.
Tuesday , recover, work out.
Wednesday is really our first.
First day of practice.
So if I play on Sunday and my first game is actually on Thursday, you can kind of do the math as to how that switches everything up.
So I think it's a huge deal, Jalil, that a team like the Buffalo Bills has 6 short weeks with a first-time head coach that if things start going sideways, you're already knowing, coach, you talked about this before the show, where that blame is gonna go.
Coach Joe Brady, do you even know what we're doing?
Why are we doing this?
Why are we in pads?
Why?
Why aren't we doing walk-throughs?
Why are we going at this temple?
There are so many different conversations that are gonna be had at the Buffalo Bills, uh, facility if those short weeks don't result in two wins just because of their young head coach.
So Julo, I think it's a huge deal, man.
It is a big deal, right?
And you talked about it.
When you play a game on Sunday as a former player, when you wake up on on a Monday, you barely can walk.
On Tuesday, Tuesday is worse, you barely can walk.
Then Wednesday comes, you get in the.
Kinks out, you're practicing.
You're really working 1st and 2nd down, and then when you look at the, you look at the Buffalo Bills' schedule week 2 and week 6, right?
Alright, maybe not so much because that's the beginning of the season.
Everyone's juices are flowing.
They're ready to play ball.
They're excited, they're feeling healthy still.
Then the last 4 that they have, week 10 at the Jets, week 12 at the Chiefs, week 15 and week 16, that's all backloaded when your body's feeling the worst at the back end of the season.
Everybody hurt.
Absolutely big deal.
This is a big deal, um.
For, for, for coaches, because you have to make sure now how do you run practice because at the end of the day with this schedule, the way it fits, you get a lot of walkthroughs because you're not gonna be able to practice because players get beat up in practice.
Uh, my main concern with this schedule is the quarterback who I think is the best player in football.
It's just my, my humble opinion.
I think if, if, if the Buffalo Bills don't have Josh Allen as a quarterback, they win 5 games every year.
That's fine.
That's true.
So this guy, it's all on him, and it's a shame, you know, it, it, I mean really it's a crying shame, how this guy plays and competes.
And so now all of a sudden you got to really protect him because you're giving this guy a short week.
And the way he plays football, I mean this guy's a football player now.
I mean he plays football.
He ain't a quarterback.
He's just a football player.
He just happens to get the ball, but he's a football player, right?
And so I worry about this guy because You wanna watch it if, if, if you're a fan of football, you don't even have to be a Buffalo fan.
Just, just watch 17 play, right, and you go, that's a football player.
How would you, how would you go about it, coach, on a short week, and multiple short weeks with a guy like Josh Allen, you know, in practice?
How would you go about that?
Well, you got, you, you gotta protect him, um, how beat up he's gonna get, right?
Um, how many throws he's gonna have in practice.
There's gonna be a lot of walkthroughs.
You're not gonna have.
These long durations of periods of practice, you have to sum it down and, and I'm pretty sure coach is already looking at how can we get to do this right and he's a young coach.
He's got some veteran guys on his staff .
They'll help him, but this is hard.
Why the league would do this to a team, I have no idea because it's not fair to him.
It's really not because they know people want to watch a football player.
They'll put him on those prime teams and they really want to watch a great football player.
But, but did Coach, let me ask you this.
Did the Bills do enough in adding DJ Moore this offseason?
Is he enough of a wide receiver addition to make Josh Allen better down the stretch, especially because they got to play the Bears on a Saturday late in the season, week 15, and then on a short week turnaround Christmas Day special is, uh, Broncos hosting the Bills, which is just like the return of a nightmare.
That's kind of a Christmas nightmare for Josh Allen.
Is DJ Moore good enough to make it better?
He helps him because.
He's an explosive player when he's the ball in his hand, and he needs something like that on offense, but they have the runner, which, which is fine, but, but they needed another res they had to get a guy that's plays out on the, on the, on the edges, right?
And you can move him around.
You can put him in the slot.
You can move him around.
He's gonna be a big part of this offense, getting the ball in his hand and make, make him move the chains for you because he's a dynamic player.
He always seems to make big plays, yeah, and, and .
You know, Josh Allen, this is gonna be his first year with DJ Moore as as his receiver, but this isn't gonna be Joe Brady's first year with DJ Moore as his receiver, right?
You, you think about DJ Moore as a Carolina Panther.
His best year was when he was with Joe Brady.
And so Joe Brady is now the head coach for the Buffalo Bills, and now you have the best player, arguably the best player in the National Football League in Josh Allen.
You have the rushing title holder in James Cook, which if you want to help out your quarterback , if you want to keep him healthy, run the football.
Like, allow, don't, don't have 17 run the football.
Have James Cook run the football and then off of that run game, allow Josh Allen to do his thing and then hit DJ Moore the, the way that Joe Brady is going to curate plays that Joe Brady does, and that Joe Brady was with us in New Orleans.
He, he does things similar to, to, uh, uh, to, to Sean.
It's, it's gonna be something that it's gonna be a dynamic that I think we should pay attention to, but to alleviate some of that pressure off of Josh Allen, establish that run game and get that ball out quick to DJ Moore.
