Ahead of Sunday's series finale against the Toronto Blue Jays, the Red Sox rotation got a major boost as the team announced that left-handed starter Ranger Surez was activated off the 15-day injured list.
Surez has not appeared in a Major League game after exiting his July 5th start against the Angels after only two and two-thirds innings, thanks to a left groin strain.
He, of course, landed on the injured list while the team was in Chicago after throwing in the outfield and not feeling 100.
Red Sox, of course, pushed back his scheduled return from the IL during Tuesday's rainout against the Orioles, citing some lingering soreness from his Monday workout, paired with an illness causing him to lose some strength because he wasn't eating.
Of course, Surez has been one of the best starters in the Red Sox rotation in the absence of Garrett Crochet.
In 12 starts since Crochet last appeared for the Red Sox, Surez has held opponent batters to a 229 batting average while posting a 280 ERA across 64 and two-thirds innings.
Left-hand reliever Alec Gamboa was optioned to make room on the 26-man roster for Surez's activation
