Ahead of Thursday afternoon's series finale on the South Side of Chicago, the Red Sox announced that they've placed All-Star left-handed starter Ranger Surez on the 15-day injured list with a left groin injury, recalling infielder Brett Harris to take his place on the 26-man roster.

The move to place Surez on the IL comes just four days after he was removed from his last start Sunday night in Los Angeles after only three innings, after appearing to tweak something in that groin while lunging for a weakly hit chopper off the bat of Joe Adell.

But Surez told reporters after the game that he actually felt the pinch while delivering the pitch, rather than when attempting to field the ball.

After Monday's off day, he was spotted throwing in the outfield at Rate Field ahead of Tuesday's series opener with the White Sox, telling reporters he was going to attempt a bullpen session on Thursday before determining his next steps.

According to Sean McAdam of masslive.com, Surez opted not to throw that bullpen ahead of Thursday's series finale, instead landing on the injured list.

As a result of the injury, he will miss Tuesday's All-Star Game in Philadelphia, the place where he spent the first eight years of his career
