Braves Triumph Over White Sox Before Crucial Series With Brewers
The Atlanta Braves clinched a key win over the Chicago White Sox, ending their skid and lifting spirits for their upcoming series with the Milwaukee Brewers.
Video Transcript
We did see the Braves earlier today finally win a game, 'cause it has not- Yeah gone well for them in the month of August, coming out of a sweep against M- you know, Minnesota sweeps them.
They were supposed to have off today, but then they had to stop and play this rainout game against the White Sox.
Yep.
And now they're heading to take on the Brewers, and it, listen, you gotta win this game, right?
If you're Atlanta, you can't lose th- and then go into Milwaukee getting beat up by the American League, you know, trash here.
And that's kind of exactly what they were in jeopardy of doing.
But great game by Holmes today, and finally they got off the snide and got a win.
Yeah, everyone says that, that Holmes can't pitch for them in the playoffs.
Yeah.
But meanwhile- Yeah he's, like, been their most consistent guy all year long.
Like, it's, it's, it's crazy to think.
Yeah.
You know, Holmes and Elder don't really scare a lot of people, but they've been very consistent all year.
So you're right.
You mentioned it, Joe, the, the Braves don't wanna go back and play the White Sox the final day of the season or the final week of the season because they're gonna have to be, playing or preparing for the playoffs.
So for them to get a win in Chicago today is good by them.
And even with them getting swept by Minnesota, Joe, 73 and 53 on the year for the, for the, uh- Yeah for the Braves.
They finished 20 games over 500.
That's winning the division.
In all likelihood, probably getting a first round bye too.
So they- Yep just have banked so many wins to this point.
They th- had an incredible first half.
They were as good as anybody except for maybe the Dodgers in the first half.
And now it's the, the, the weekend series that everybody's been waiting for, because this is the potential playoff match up, maybe the division series or maybe even the National League Championship Series with the Braves and the Brewers.
So to me, this is the best series in baseball this weekend coming, starting tomorrow.
Y- yeah.
It's, I'm looking very forward to seeing that.
I don't know what happened to Tampa.
They lost again today.
And all of a sudden Toronto just winning games here, and they've got a series- A streak I guess, against the Yankees, tom- starting tomorrow heading into this weekend.
But, Seymour only gave up six hits.
Three of them were solo home runs, and Toronto wins 5-1.
I, I'm starting to f- listen, Tampa's got enough equity, right, on wins early enough in the season, 76 and 51, that they can afford to play with their food a little bit here.
But yeah, not a great look here over the last couple of weeks for the Tampa Bay Rays.
No, definitely not as strong at home as they have been too.
And, you know, look, maybe Toronto is catching fire at the right time.
I don't really believe that.
I tend to think that every team just loses series over the course of the year.
Baltimore got hot.
They smashed around Tampa Bay.
Blue Jays are hot, smashing around Tampa Bay here for a bit.
I would expect the Rays to be just fine.
And again, you're 76 and 51.
You've, you've built 25 games over 500, and, of a lead- Right that's just insurmountable.
Not for the, not for the division, 'cause the Yankees are certainly just a few games back, but, you know, Tampa Bay's gonna be in the playoffs.
And I've always been told, like, August is just, for a team that's up, it's just really not a good indicator.
It's, as they say, the dog days of summer.
I just think that they've hit.
They hit in LA, they hit in Tampa, and they hit in Atlanta
