Broncos LB Alex Singleton joins 'The Insiders' to share team's excitement for next season
Denver Broncos linebacker Alex Singleton joins "The Insiders" for an exclusive interview.
Video Transcript
When we're talking about the most productive linebackers in the NFL, one name that probably doesn't get talked about enough is that man right there on the left, Alex Singleton, right up there with Roquan Smith, future Hall of Famer Bobby Wagner, Fred Warner, among others, most seasons with 120+ tackles since 2020.
Also one of the leaders in appearances here on the Insiders.
What do you know?
He's back.
Alex Singleton with us right now, Tom Pilliaro and Judy Battista.
Alex, tons to get into football-wise with you, but let's start out with UC Health's healthy swings, home run derby tomorrow, Coors Field.
Tell me about this event.
Yeah, uh, it's really exciting.
UC Health, um, every year, picks a local charity in Denver that they donate money to, based off of how badly guys on our team can hit home runs.
So, it's really cool.
This year for is for Athletics and Beyond, which is a, a program that just gives back to the community, gives uh, uses sports as a way to mentor, you know, young athletes and young men to, you know, just become better, better people in their community, uh, leadership, mentorship.
Everything you need, but you know, using sports as the base and uh, you know, really being able to take over for everything.
Uh, OK, we saw the list of some of the guys who are going to participate, lots of your teammates, so don't worry about offending anybody here.
Give us the handicap for this.
Who is going to win this?
Uh, you know, I'm taking myself at 1, but Cortland Sutton has put 3 or 4 out one year, so he's, he's a top competitor.
There's some guys that can't swing a baseball bat, so, I, you know, I'm, I'm a short field.
I, I'm a I'm a minus a minus points guy.
You know, sometimes when you, when you get real muscled up there, Alex, even that practice we would have saw from you, it's like you got so much muscle to get past, it's not always, you know, that whippy motion you need to be able to, to go yard, but still, good luck to you, fantastic event.
Speaking of healthy swings, you went through a lot health-wise last year, diagnosed with testicular cancer, somehow you were able to get back on the field.
I, I can't imagine you were 100%.
How do you feel now and what are your expectations for yourself here as we roll into 2026?
Yeah, uh, I feel incredible.
The fact to just say my body's not battling cancer this season is, you know, special on its own.
So, to be fully recovered from that, recovering from the ACL two years ago, um, yeah, being 100% right now is really exciting.
I'm, you know, expecting my best year so far, even at the age of 32.
I mean the projections for this team have taken off as well.
You're, you're obviously going to be on everybody's radar, you're not surprising anybody in the NFL anymore.
What has Sean Payton told you guys about how to handle that different dynamic for this team?
You know, it's, it's really that.
It's us understanding that now.
You know, last year was, we wanna be the aggressors, we wanna be the people that go after people with their targets, but now it's knowing we are the ones with the targets.
What are you willing to do and give up to be that, to represent that, but then to be able to win those games, cause that's what we're getting every week from every team is their best.
You have the situation at the end of the divisional playoff game where Bo Nix finishes the game with an injury that ruled him out for the rest of the season, he needed surgery for it.
I know it's impossible and it's no offense to to Jarrett Stidham here, but Bo Nix was, was performing at a really high level.
How much, if at all, even just in those couple of weeks leading up to the Super Bowl, were you playing the what if game in your head, knowing how good you guys were, and the fact that you went in there kind of with one hand tied behind your back?
Yeah, it makes you sick at the end of the day, you know, when you lose anybody, especially in in an important position, you, you feel that way if you lose, you know, we all had 100% confidence we could win those games with Jarrett, and we didn't, but it's not a thing we think of, oh, if.
We wish, you know, Jarrett wasn't playing at but, it was just, you know, obviously the circumstance, but yeah, it's just another piece or tool that we can use this offseason and this season to know where we wanna go to, and, you know, what we left on the table last year.
We know he's not participating in OTAs, but what's the feeling around the building?
What's the anticipation for when you get him back on the field, where this team can go?
Yeah, sky's the limit.
Like we just said, you know, we feel like we're the team with the target on our back in the AFC.
We're the team that everyone's gonna wanna beat.
So, it's, you know, first, getting better, you know, throughout this time for the next 3.5, 4 months.
And then it's, you know, proving first to yourselves that you can, you know, be that team and be that team week in and week out.
And then it's just going and taking care of business and, you know, getting back to.
Where we were last year.
That's the toughest part about the NFL is, is we're chasing to get back, you know, to an AFC championship.
That's not the easiest thing to do, not a lot of teams have done that back to back year, so to be able to.
Use these next few months to build, and then, you know, the season to really stack those games and, you know, get after what we wanna be doing in January, February and uh on Valentine's Day.
It it's a very long season, obviously 17 games, and then you hope 3 or 4 more to get to that Super Bowl next February here, but week one, OK, week one , it's at Arrowhead, it's on national TV.
You know that whatever happens in that game, we're all gonna overreact to it, the media, the fans.
How much of it all are you guys allowing your brains to go ahead to the fact that, I mean, if there's an opportunity to make a statement, this is it, coming out once again and going up with a team that until last year had been ruling that division.
Yeah, that is that.
It's a, you know, it may be an overreaction league, but that is how a lot of people just in this business are.
So it is, we wanna set the tempo .
You wanna start the season the right way, and especially if you're on prime time.
It just sets, sets the standard for what you wanna put out there for this country to see.
And if you want that to be great defense, great offense, and just an overall really great team, it's, you know, going to Kansas City and winning a football game.
I don't know how locked in you are on all of the offseason machinations that go on in the NFL, but we've had kind of a crazy week here in the NFL.
There's been an awful lot of big player movement.
One of the teams, the team you beat or the team you lost to in the AFC Championship game, but you held Drake May to under 1000 yards, just got a new wide receiver in AJ Brown.
When you look at that team, you face them towards the end of the regular season coming up.
When you look at that team, how does he change them?
Yeah, I mean, AJ Brown is a dynamic receiver.
He has been for the last decade in this league.
So to obviously add that piece is gonna just take them another step.
Drake May is gonna get another year to get better.
So, I'm thankful we're playing them.
I think it's week 16, so we'll have a lot of film by that point on who they're gonna be.
But yeah, they're, I mean, they're definitely, it's gonna be a better offense this year.
The balls should be flying tomorrow night, Coors Field, they always do, you know, cause of altitude, that's kind of how it works there.
Alex, have a lot of fun, thanks a ton for coming on again, man.
Thank you guys, I appreciate it.
Over under will be about 35.
