Carlos Mendoza on the Mets' 4-3 win over the Angels 'solid team win'
Mets' manager Carlos Mendoza talks about how the Mets were able to fight back after going down in the first inning. He details how Christian Scott attacked the zone and put himself in a good position, and he also highlights Ronny Mauricio's home run.

Carlos, what did it say about the guys that they were able to, to find a way to rally late today?
it says a lot.
It says a lot, especially after everything we've been going through, you know?
and you get down early in that first inning, you know, the two-run homer out of the gate.
but, you know, they, they fought back and they found a way.
You know, that's what That's a good sign, you know, when you're able to come back and being able to lock it down.
good at-bats.
continue to just create some traffic.
Obviously, Albie and seeing in there the two out single.
But in general, the whole pitching staff, I, I think it was a very good, a solid team win.
You mentioned the whole pitching staff retiring the final 21 batters that they faced.
What did you see as a group overall tonight?
I mean, it starts attacking the strike zone as a, as a whole, you know?
I don't think we gave them any free, free, free bases, you know?
Like, that's where it starts.
When you're throwing strikes and you're competing in the strike zone, you, you're gonna be in a good position.
and they did that today.
So, it was, especially from, Scotty, you know?
The first inning, coming back after that, that last outing and then just, he, he kept going.
He, he didn't put his head down.
He kept at- he kept attacking, and he was able to give us five innings and, and give us a chance to win a baseball game.
You mentioned, you know, what you guys have been through.
D- does it feel different just because that was a game where you kind of did that thing finally?
Claws and, you know, nothing can really- I think they're all different, but every time you, you get an opportunity to, to win a game like that, you know, we haven't been able to, to win games like that when you get down three-nothing and y- you know, the feeling's like, "All right."
Today, it wasn't the case.
it was something different.
The energy in the dugout, just, like, the guys playing loose, the guys playing their game and, and we saw that.
and it started with, with Scotty.
When he got punched, he punched back.
So, he kind of set the tone there.
How was he able to sort of settle into his outing?
What did he do well with the latter half?
That's what makes him who he Not only because of his stuff and all that, but he's just got a good, good head, you know?
And he's like, he, he doesn't get too high.
He doesn't get too low.
you know, it was-- could've been easy for him to just put his head down, you know, after the last outing.
First inning, he goes and kind of like, "Here we go again," and he didn't show any sign.
Like, I, I'm not surprised by it.
and it just goes to show you, you know, he's a mature kid.
So That ball rockets off, Mauricio's bat like that.
Are you like, "Man, where's, where's that been?"
we've seen that before, you know?
and he's tricky.
He, this guy can hit the ball as far and as hard as anybody.
and it was just good to see him come through there in that situation.
yeah, he needed that one.
I was gonna say, how unexpected was that from that guy, but now it wasn't unexpected.
No, I mean, he, he's got pop.
You know, the ball jump off, off his bat.
You know, he's, he's got a lot of tools.
he just need to play.
So, I'm not surprised by that.
As far as getting Weaver just back in there after yesterday, was that, were you happy you were able to do that, get to the spot right now?
Hundred percent confidence in, in those guys, you know?
It's part of the game, and there's a reason they are who they are, you know?
They're, they're not gonna back down, you know?
They know that, hey, they got him yesterday one pitch, but his job is to bounce back.
And today, you, you saw the whole time, aggressive, his body language.
Like, you knew he was gonna get the job done, and he, he's done that plenty of time throughout his career.
So it was just good to see not only we but, you know, everyone that came out of that bullpen just doing their part.
