There are stars on this defensive line, but Cassius Howe has the best chance to becoming the next one at just 23 years old.

According to reports from Bengals media who were on site, it looked like Murphy would've had a couple of would-be sacks, along with a lot of other pressures, forcing Caleb Williams to throw when he wasn't comfortable doing so, getting him out of the pocket.

If that was the case, going up against one of the best right tackles in the game and having this sort of practice performance, that is really encouraging for the Bengals defensive line.

What's been awesome to see is that after Shamar Stewart's unfortunate knee injury, Cassius Howe has not only been getting more reps in training camp, he's looked very promising in those reps.

He had a really good pre-season debut against the Lions, and he was consistently in the backfield, along with Murphy, going up against the Bears offensive line.

He started off individual offensive line versus defensive line drills against Darnell Wright, got a pretty clean win on him, and then in conjunction with Murphy oftentimes, was in the Bears backfield.

And I will continue, I cannot emphasize enough how crucial it will be for the Bengals defensive line to have an immediate impact from Cassius Howe.

Because this defensive front can only work when the depth behind its starters continue to show up, and Howe is right in line right now to be the first edge off of the bench in some of these passing situations
