For starters, it is officially time to get excited about second round pick Cassius Howell.
We already knew that he was in line for more snaps once Shemar Stewart hyperextended his knee, taking him out for the remainder of this month, and maybe leading up to the regular season entirely.
But Howell was only getting work against really, like, the backups along the offensive line, going up against guys like Andrew Coker and Cody Ford, and not really getting any, you know, quality reps against the likes of Orlando Brown Jr. And Marius Mims.
That changed Thursday morning, as he was going up against Orlando Brown Jr., and actually put him on his back one or two times, and was winning with both speed and power.
And this increase in opportunity, I think, is attributed to how Zach Taylor feels about where Howell is leading up to, you know, after the first week of training camp work.
He was very impressed with, you know, just how fast he was playing and the physicality of which he was playing with, going up against, you know, backups.
And of course, he's on the second string for the defensive line, which makes sense, but this is a guy that's going to play hundreds of snaps of football for your team this year.
And right now, he has the opportunity to be the first edge defender coming off the bench behind starters Myles Murphy and Boye Mafe.
The opportunity is there.
He needs to run with it, and he needs to get those chances.
So it was really promising to finally see him go up against some of the ones, and look like he belongs in the process
