The Colts May Be Able to Trade Anthony Richardson Soon

So what's going to happen with Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson?
The trade talks are maybe ramping up a little bit as we get into the preseason here in training camp, and it seems like he's not gonna be a member of the Colts for very long.
And part of the reason that the talks are ramping back up is referenced in this tweet by Evan Sidery, which cites that Anthony Richardson was paid his four point two million dollar roster bonus that he was due in training camp this season, which means that he will only cost one point one million dollars against the team's cap if they acquire him, which is great for a trade possibility.
Now, look, it's no secret that the short Anthony Richardson era did not go well for Indianapolis after him being selected with the fourth pick in the twenty-twenty-three draft.
Richardson has played in just seventeen games in his career.
He's thrown for twenty-four hundred yards, eleven touchdowns, and thirteen picks, which sits him at just below a sixty-eight passer rating, and it just has not been good.
It's been a frustrating time for Colts fans and for that organization.
So with that being said, I believe that trading him, if you can, is the right way to go, and I think there are some opportunities in the near future for Indianapolis.
And look, for Colts fans, for that organization, you should want Anthony Richardson to have the preseason of his life and to go out there and show what he can do.
And the Colts have some opportunities.
Next week, they'll have joint practices with New England and take them on in the preseason.
The following week, joint practice with Atlanta when they take on the Falcons in the preseason.
We've already seen the Falcons quarterback room take some hits with both Tua Tagovailoa and Michael Penix Jr. Having injury problems.
Falcons brought in Cooper Rush, who is a veteran quarterback.
They could look to go young and try to bring somebody like Anthony Richardson in the mix.
And then the Colts finish the preseason against the Detroit Lions.
Now look, Atlanta may not be the team that pulls the trigger on trying to make a trade for Anthony Richardson, but I have a strong feeling that some team might soon because again, he only costs one point one million dollars against the team's cap if they are to trade for him.
So it's a really good time based off of money to go get a guy like Anthony Richardson who still has all the talent, all the potential.
It's just, it hasn't worked out in Indy, and that happens sometimes, as frustrating as it is.
But he may work out somewhere else, at least as a backup.
He can be a serviceable player in this league.
And look, the last scenario I would throw out is this: There is a chance maybe that he is on the initial fifty-three-man roster heading into the week one game against Baltimore, and that is okay.
Teams need good backup quarterback options.
The Colts also have Riley Leonard, obviously.
But Daniel Jones coming off the Achilles, by all accounts, is doing well.
You just never know, though.
If he goes down, that could change things drastically in that quarterback room.
And keeping him on the initial fifty-three does not mean that you get rid of the chance to trade him.
Guys get injured all the time in the National Football League.
I think something one way or another is gonna open up for the Colts to trade Richardson to a quarterback needy team this season.
