Commanders getting creative with offensive plan
Patrick Daugherty and Denny Carter review David Blough's creative ideas for a play-action centered offense built around third-year quarterback Jayden Daniels for the Washington Commanders' 2026 season
Video Transcript
Speaking to the assembled Washington, D.C. press corps this week, new Commanders offensive coordinator David Blough has confirmed he's gonna build the offense around Jayden Daniels, Danny Carter.
Spoiler alert, I think I would be rather shocked if that were not the plan.
It is the plan.
Part of that plan apparently includes a heavy utilization of play action.
How much has Jayden Daniels been utilized under play action in the past?
This a good idea, bad idea, neutral?
What do you think?
Yeah, I No, I think this is good.
I think this is good, not only for Daniels, but for the pass catchers in this Washington offense as well.
David Blough is here to mix it up, you know, to get a little more creative than Kliff Kingsbury did with the Commanders offense, and I think that's probably good for everyone, including Daniels, who last year was top eight in accuracy, while using play action.
There's also a tidbit from a, a little while back where David Blough said, "We're gonna be under center more," and Jayden Daniels has been very good under center over his first two NFL seasons.
Overall, I think these are really good changes.
I think it'll pay off for Daniels, McLaurin, and the rest of these guys in the Washington offense.
David Blough maybe not reinventing the wheel in Washington, but maybe leaning in, to the strength of what is now a third-year quarterback, Danny Carter.
Something we just didn't see maybe as much last season.
Kind of a cursed year all around for the Commanders under Kliff Kingsbury in 2025.
Things were gonna get better, I think, even if they didn't change coordinators.
They did.
Seems like he has some good new ideas.
Jayden Daniels hopefully headed for a 2026 bounce back.
