Cubs ‘did enough’ at deadline to hold onto WC spot
With veterans Kevin Gausman and Clay Holmes packing their bags to join the Cubs after the deadline, CC Sabathia believes Chicago is well-positioned to maintain its grip on the top NL Wild Card spot.

Top wildcard team right now in the National League is the Chicago Cubs.
They're four games up on the Diamondbacks.
Kevin Gausman, they got from the Blue Jays.
Clay Holmes, they got from the Mets, along with Tyrone Taylor in the outfield there.
Did they do enough, in your mind, to make them better in the places they were weak?
Yeah, I thought so.
I mean, I, I, I really love the Kevin Gausman move, going out and get I like that move for, for everybody, right?
I like that move for the Cubs, and I like the move for the Blue Jays, going out and, and filling his spot with, you know, Jorge Solano, a controllable starter.
So I thought that was a good move by, by, by the Blue Jays and, and, and Ross Atkins.
You know, Clay Holmes has been great.
You know, obviously watching him, in New York for a long time, and then go over to the Mets as a starter, you know, I think he's gonna be great for that, for that rotation and, in that ballpark.
So I think they did do enough to, to be able to hold on to that wildcard.
And it's an interesting way that they're, they're building this team too, because obviously every team could use a Terrance Gore.
But c- the Cubs the last few years, they have focused on guys who pitch to contact, ground ball pitchers, and you saw more of the same here with, with who they acquired, and with a good, solid infield defense.
I love when you, you see some teams zigging and zagging, and not every team needs the strikeout right now.
The Cubs are tr- kinda trying to design their team a little bit different way, trying to prevent runs, but m- by pitching to contact a little bit more.
Yeah, I mean, and you know, there's different ways to skin a cat, right?
You can, you can get outs.
You, outs are outs, it doesn't matter how you get them.
I know people love swing and miss when it comes down to October and the playoffs, but, but you know, being able to go out and get outs is the same thing.
And, you know, just getting a team back in the dugout and, you know, letting them swing the bats and the Cubs have been doing that lately.
The lineup has been, has been great.
And like you said, that infield defense is really, really good, so they'll be great behind Clay Holmes.
