What is up Cubs fans and welcome back to Cubs Roundtable.
I'm Joey Polizzi talking about all things Cubs.
And the Cubs are searching for some starting pitching help at this year's trade deadline.
And luckily for them, there's a specific team that they could be trading with at this year's trade deadline to get that top-of-the-line starting pitcher, and it's the Los Angeles Angels.
The Angels and Cubs could be a perfect match because the Angels have two controllable starting pitchers that the Cubs could target at the August 3rd trade deadline.
The first is Reid Detmers.
And while Detmers ha- does have an ERA over 4.00, he has pitched much better than his numbers suggest.
His expected ERA is 3.31, and he also ranks in the top half of the league in WHIP rate, chase rate, and strikeout rate.
That could be a nice target for the Cubs considering he is not a free agent until after the 2028 season.
And then there's Jos Soriano, who is also another young, controllable starting pitcher the Cubs could look to target.
Soriano, not a free agent until after the 2028 season.
He has pitched well this season, obviously.
His first seven starts, obviously, was electric and great.
Kinda has regressed a little bit since then, but still respectable ERA this year, good strikeout numbers.
And the Cubs could look to target either one of these pitchers at the trade deadline, and the Angels are reportedly interested in a young and upcoming catcher.
Well, the Cubs have a young and upcoming catcher in Owen Ayers, who is now the Cubs' number three prospect in the organization on MLB Pipeline.
And Owen is one of the biggest risers in the Cubs' system this year.
Breakout season this year, 22 home runs, has looked really good this season.
So maybe the Cubs can go out and get a Reid Detmers or Jos Soriano for a package deal involving Owen Ayers, who would be the headline package deal prospect in that deal.
So couldn't, could work out here, could be a deal that gets done.
It all depends on whether the Angels wanna trade Detmers or Soriano at this year's trade deadline.
Let me know what you guys think about this move.
Would you wanna trade Detmers or Jos Soriano?
