Cubs Reportedly 'Like' Freddy Peralta Ahead of Trade Deadline

What is up, Cubs fans?
And welcome back to Cubs Roundtable.
I'm Joey Polizzi, talking about all things Cubs.
And it's no secret that the Cubs are going to try and acquire a top-of-the-line starting pitcher at this year's trade deadline.
There's so many starting pitchers the Cubs have out right now.
Edward Cabrera, Ben Brown, Cade Horlen, Justin Steele.
So the Cubs need a premier starting pitcher.
Well, unfortunately for the Cubs, a lot of those premier starting pitchers that were expected to be available might not be available anymore.
Teams like the Boston Red Sox are surging right now, 12 straight wins, which means Sonny Gray might not be available.
Sandy Alcantara and the Marlins, they hold the final wild card spot in the National League.
Alcantara will probably not be moved.
Tarik Skubal, well, the Tigers have won 11 of their last 14 games, and they're just three and a half games back of the final wild card spot, so Skubal might not be available.
So the arms that could be available are getting smaller and smaller potentially for the Cubs to acquire.
But I think there's one pitcher in particular that the Cubs could really go after, and it makes a lot of sense for them to go after.
It's Freddy Peralta, New York Mets starting pitcher.
And it's not a surprise to see them potentially go after him, because they're familiar with him.
Craig Counsell managed him for six years in Milwaukee.
And you know, when we hear stuff like Jon Heyman report that the Cubs like Freddy Peralta, yeah, not really much of a surprise because the Cubs could make a lot of sense for Peralta with, you know, the history of knowing him from Milwaukee.
And Peralta's in the final year of his deal, so might not have to give a lot up compared to pitchers like Joe Ryan and Logan Webb.
And I think Peralta is due for a better second half.
His expected ERA is much lower than his actual ERA, which is a good sign that some positive regression could come his way.
And, and I think he would benefit, Peralta, from a change of scenery, pitching in front of a better Cubs defense than he is currently with the Mets, and I think that could help him be that ace that we all know he can be.
And I think the Cubs could get that version of him if they do trade for him at this year's trade deadline.
