ESPN Writer Wants Cubs To Trade For This All-Star Pitcher

What is up, Cubs fans?
And welcome back to Cubs Roundtable.
I'm Joey Polizzi, talking about all things Cubs.
And all eyes are on the Cubs and what they're gonna do at this year's trade deadline.
The expectation is that the Chicago Cubs will be looking to add a starting pitcher, and it's not much of a surprise, because the Cubs currently have five starting pitchers on the injured list.
Edward Cabrera, Ben Brown, Jameson Taillon, Cade Horlen, and Justin Steele are all sidelined with different injuries, and a couple of those pitchers will not even return this season, as Justin Steele won't start any games for the Cubs, and Cade Horlen is out for the year due to Tommy John surgery.
So the Cubs need a starting pitcher, need an ace, and obviously, the Cubs are probably gonna be seeing what the value is for Tarik Skubal.
They have reportedly done their homework on Skubal, and Cubs, along with several other contenders, are gonna be in on Skubal.
But if the price of Skubal is a bit too high for the Cubs' likings, they could pivot to someone like Freddy Peralta.
Obviously, the Mets traded for Peralta for the season, but the Mets are the second-worst team in the National League right now, and Peralta is a free agent at the end of the 2026 season.
So that means the Cubs could go after Peralta, potentially acquire an ace who has pitched better than his numbers suggest this year.
Obviously, ERA not looking great right now, but h- his expected ERA is sub 3.75.
That means Peralta has gotten a little bit unlucky on the mound this year.
The Cubs need an ace.
Peralta would be that ace.
And ESPN, in their latest trade deadline piece, urged the Cubs to go after someone like Freddy Peralta.
They want the Cubs to go after Freddy Peralta, get an ace in their rotation.
He, and the writer of that article believes that it would be a nice fit for the Cubs to land Freddy Peralta.
