Dan Campbell does not take an opportunity to hype up his players during his first talk at organized team activities.
I'm John Maccaroon, Detroit Lions on SI.
As everyone has observed, Dan Campbell is much more subdued.
It really started to become noticeable following a disappointing 2025 season when Dan Campbell, the former NFL tight end, took to the podium after the 2025 season.
You kind of got Sense that he was ready to come back right away and focus on OTAs, focus on training camp.
But when he took to the podium, he had a no-nonsense approach.
Still taking that us against the world mentality, taking the opportunities to say that this football team has to get back to being competitive, gritty, and he feels like the additions that were made will get the football team maybe back to where they were in terms of how they trained back in 2020.
One in 2022.
But he was asked, naturally, when a head coach is speaking in front of reporters for the first time in a month or so, there are opportunities to ask about certain players.
He just said when he was asked about Levi Enrique, just gave the very basic answers indicating that, look, um, he's there, he's practicing, he's doing fine, uh, encouraged, but he's not going to hype up any players, saying it's not worth it.
To hype up players during a time of year that he describes as a pajama party, where uh players in the roster practice but without pads.
So, Dan Campbell did not take the opportunity to hype up his roster , but did say that he was encouraged by the offensive line, encouraged by the cornerback room, and obviously liking the additions that were made, especially with competition at a lot of different spots.
But Dan Campbell's noticed will be different.
Everybody's noticing it.
All business, strictly business, less nonsense from the former NFL tight end, and we'll see if that pays dividends for a roster that finished 9 and 8, and has been overhyped and underachieved over the last couple of years.
We'll see if Dan Campbell's new attitude translates to more success out on the football field.
