Despite loss, U.S. captain Nathan Smith calls Walker Cup one of the greatest sporting events in the world
U.S. Walker Cup captain Nathan Smith described the "wild" final day at Lahinch where GB&I stormed back to win and called it one of the greatest sporting events in the world.

Nathan, they came charging back furiously and ultimately ended up pulling off the greatest comeback ever.
How do you assess these last few hours?
Well, it was a wild day, right?
'Cause we went kind of 4 and 0 this morning, and then they, they came out and they played great this afternoon.
It was tough conditions, and, you know, you just gotta tip their cap to them 'cause they I mean, they had a deep, incredible team.
We knew what we were up against, and we never foot- took the, foot off the accelerator, but all the credit to them.
They played incredible this afternoon.
You know what great world-class golf looks like.
How do you just tip your cap to them, and what does this do for amateur golf as a whole this moment?
Well, I think I said at the beginning of the day, "You're gonna see why this is one of the, the greatest sporting events in the world," and, it is.
I mean, it was an incredible amphitheater on, you know, 18, and through the day it was incredible golf.
I mean, a lot of the guys were losing holes to eagles, and it was wild.
The shot-making was incredible with the wind.
But, all the credit to them and, you know, it's one of the best, sporting events in the world.
We were honored to be a part of it.
What are you gonna take away from these last two years, and what should, more importantly, these 10 men take away after this weekend?
Well, the experience.
I mean, Lahinch, Lahinch Golf Club, the whole town, the club opening their arms to us.
It was an incredible experience, I mean, to come to Ireland and be here for a week.
But, you know, for these guys, I mean, it's amazing.
I feel that, you know, meeting these guys, you know, we'll be, we'll be close for life.
But, for them it's an incredible experience.
I mean, on, and even a stepping stone to the next level.
I mean, to get these crowds, to have 8, 10,000 people on top of you, you know, on the greens and everything.
There'll be, there'll be, Anything after that seems like, they might be playing in front of less people, you know, when you have that many people around you.
But it's incredible playing for your country.
We're honored to be here, and all the credit to them.
