Records, or is it really just about, you know, getting personal bests?
I think, honestly, sorry, not to have a really corny answer that's, like, trying to be all, like, morally good, but, like, I do think running's kind of a journey, and, like, even beyond the times, I think what I'm looking for year to year is just, like, becoming a better athlete holistically.
whether that's, like, learning, like, strategy and tactics or, you know, developing my training year to year, and just being able to stack, like, B+ workouts over time rather than, like, just having these, like, huge time performances on the track.
Like, I think it is just about development over time, and, like, you know, I think running's a little bit of a metaphor for life, and just, like, becoming a better person, too.
But to be able to have the times, and, like, the, my name on the all-time list as, like, a fruit of that labor, like, journey, it is really cool, and I think it's kind of a testament to, like, the growth I've had on and off the track.
But- Thank you.
I know there was a little bit of nerves, but there's also just gratitude going through this.
When did the nerves, like, leave you at all?
Or were you just happy the entire time running this race?
I think it was really helpful that this is my fourth meet.
Yeah- In total my fourth meet here this year.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah, it is, it is, it is.
so I felt really familiar underneath Hayward, and, like, I felt kind of, like, right at home, or like, "Okay, I've done this.
I've been under this track a ton of times before to, like, to race."
So, I think I was, I was able to calm down a bit under there, and kind of settle in.
But, you know, when we stepped out on the track and just had a few minutes, like, doing strides on the back stretch, I was kind of just, like, soaking up the moment.
so yeah, I was just really grateful, and kind of soaking it all up, and, like, to hear my friends in the stands- Yeah like, I think that gratitude is really shining through.
But, I was kind of like, "Wow, this is a big moment."
I knew it was gonna be hard, but, it's, it's cool to prove to myself I can do hard things, so.
But this was totally different than all the times you've raced at Hayward.
There were so many ladies just around you.
How was it being in those sea of girls, and how do you think that's gonna prepare you for, like, U20s, where it's gonna be competitive kind of like that?
Yeah, it was huge.
I mean, like, over that last lap, kind of being towards the back of the race, and just having people in front of me to go try and go after was so exciting, and, something I haven't gotten to do this year.
So, it was so, like, fun and, like, interesting to run behind a huge pack, and kind of learn how these style of races go.
I'm just so grateful to be here so early on in my career, and, like, learn something from these really experienced women.
Are you gonna race again before U20s, or are you just kind of gearing up for them?
I think, I don't have anything on the calendar right now.
I think the plan is just to start getting ready, and maybe take a little bit of a down week before starting to sharpen up, for the beginning of August.
When you look back to, like, the beginning of, like, your junior year, like all the way at the beginning of cross country, was this ever even on, like, the vision board, to be at Pre Classic and doing stuff like this?
I mean, I definitely had big goals, and knowing that, like, U20s was gonna be at Hayward this year, that was on my mind.
But, it's hard to, like, set these moonshot goals when, like, I didn't really have the, like, the evidence under me from the prior year.
So I think I still absolutely was betting on myself to take it as far as I could, but I don't think Pre was necessarily on, like, on my mental calendar, just 'cause, this year's really been about, like, learning myself, and, like, proving my talent and work ethic to myself again.
'Cause I think it was there the whole time, but just being able to have consistency helped me unlock that again.
And, yeah, I think just, it's started becoming a little bit more real, each week and each month.
There you go.
Well, congratulations, Ellery, and best of luck at U20s in a couple weeks.
Thank you so much.
Thanks for the collab.
Yeah, that was so-
