A Few Key Jets Make Plays in Preseason Debut

Ross Johnston highlights a few key Jets who showed strong signs in their preseason debut for 2026!

Video Transcript

Even though the New York Jets lost their preseason opener, twenty-four to sixteen to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, I thought we saw some good things from some key players on the team.

Now, none of the quarterbacks really stood out in an amazing way.

Bailey Zappe obviously really struggled with the two interceptions, but rookie quarterback, Cade Khlubnick out of Clemson, definitely had the best night of the group.

And it was really good to see him get to play more, especially early on with some starters like Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall out there since Geno Smith had to sit out of the game due to knee soreness.

So I thought it was really good experience for Cade Khlubnick overall.

He'll still have two more games in the preseason to get some experience under his belt, but he showed some really good things early.

Braelon Allen obviously had an awesome touchdown run, which was good to see.

I think, you know, obviously the Jets offense is going to lean a good bit on Breece Hall this year, but they still need a capable number two back, and Braelon Allen getting back healthy this season and being able to become an impact player again on this offense would be huge for the Jets.

So it was good to see him get some things rolling tonight.

And look, on defense, I don't know if I need to talk about anything other than Morrey Bamba, or as Aaron Glenn referred to him after the game, Bamba Island.

He was all over the field, four pass breakups.

For an undrafted guy out of BYU, that is exceptional to see, and it's a guy who wasn't really on my radar at all.

But now going forward, I will certainly be looking to see if he can make this Jets team.

I know he impressed his head coach, who was a former DB, by the way, so that could go a decent way for Bamba and his chances of making the team, and you just root for the underdogs like that.

We'll still see the Jets suit up two more times in the preseason, but overall, I thought we saw a few good things tonight and excited to see them build on it going into the future.
