This is a movie we've seen before, Serge.
The Giants led most of the way in this one, but the Mets came through with a four-run rally in the eighth to take the lead and they never looked back.
The bullpen has been the Achilles' heel of this group all season long.
It really has been, and it, this is just another tough one to swallow.
I mean, the job that, Perdomo was able to do in his first start in the big leagues- Mm-hmm and the performance he was able to put forth.
The- the hits, the two out rally that they were able to put runs into the fourth inning as well, the offense.
It- it just, it all came kinda crashing down and on- Mm-hmm just falling behind and leaving pitches over, you know, too many pitches over the plate and especially in those, pressure situations.
Yeah.
The eighth inning is where the Mets did all of their damage, so let's take a look back at how exactly that went down as they locked up the four to two win in today's series finale.
It was the right-hander Carson Seymour on the mound for SF.
Brett Baty ripped one out to left field.
Drew Gilbert tracked it, couldn't quite get it at the wall.
Mets within one at this point.
Once again, the Giants were up two-nothing after scoring two in the fourth.
A.J.
Ewing would get a base hit.
Francisco Lindor would hit a line drive into right field.
Jung Ho Kang made a great sliding catch on that one.
Juan Soto was intentionally walked, and that set up the entire situation for Bo Bichette on the second pitch to knock that one out the yard.
It really did, and it- it showed early in- in his outing, as soon as he came in, that he, Seymour was struggling locating the slider.
He left that first pitch to Baty, or the second slider to Baty over the plate, and he was able to take them deep there.
So going into this at bat, I liked that he attacked Bo, Bichette with the fastball there.
First pitch, sinker.
It was up at the top of the zone, but it was still 97 miles an hour, and Bo, Bichette just kinda was in auto take mode there.
In my eyes, I'm thinking, "Wow, he's sitting for the breaking ball here."
He's, he had, may have noticed, or we, what I was You know, I'm talking about with Seymour struggling with slider location.
Yeah.
I think he was waiting on that, and, right before that pitch may, I was like, "Hey, okay.
If you're throwing a slider here, just get it away."
He didn't get it away.
Mm-hmm.
We also have to point out the fact that the Mets were in the heart of their lineup.
Carson Seymour, a number of guys in this bullpen still trying to figure out what the rules are.
Mm-hmm.
Still trying to prove themselves.
There's a lot of youth.
There's a lot of inexperience, and at the end, the Mets get the better end of the Giants today.
This also extends the Giants road struggles, which have been a huge issue this year.
Their 10th consecutive road series loss.
The last time the Giants won a series on the road was June 16th and 17th in Atlanta.
And the numbers since that time, yeah, pretty bleak, Serge.
How do you make sense of this?
You really can't make sense of this.
Just they- That's what they pay you the big bucks for.
Come on, now.
Right?
But most of these games, you, it's just kinda like today where you end up one pitch away- Yeah from being able to get out of these situations and being able to not give up, have these blowup innings or blow these leads, and, falling behind in counts, giving up free bases, making key pitches in key situations.
They- they've just fallen short in th- in these regards.
And then also, the bat, I mean, you can't blame the bats.
The bats have been there, so i- it's really been on the pitching staff.
So a- as a whole, today you got the solid pitching performance from Perdomo, but Seymour with the, rough outing today.
Mm-hmm.
Look, as a young player, which a lot of these Giants are still young players- Yeah earning their stripes, how do you try to get into a routine, or is there anything you can do on the road to replicate what you do at home when you do see such a big difference in the home versus road splits?
You wonder routine-wise if there's anything they could tweak.
Well, I mean, they're not getting swept in these games, in these series, and they're in these series, so, like, one win away from winning these, most of these series, road series.
So, it's not necessarily finding a- a routine that works at home and that also works on the road.
It's just finding a routine that works for you in general as a season.
The whole doesn't matter.
Day in and day out, find a way to be ready every day to contribute.
And these young guys, they are gaining this experience right now, and they're putting forth a solid effort.
But then, you know, also these negative, results- Mm-hmm these negative outcomes, there's also learning experiences.
So I'm- I'm really interested n- now to see how Seymour bounces back from having this rough outing because these are learning experiences, and for the first times in those career, really, they're getting a solid run.
And, I mean, today just short.
I mean-
