We are going to flip the script here and talk about a couple of those bright spots that Richie mentioned earlier in our Daily Jackpot, brought to you by River Rock Casino.
Jesus Rodriguez made his Major League debut behind the dish last night, didn't get a hit.
That wasn't the case as he got the start tonight.
His first career hit and first career RBI, as you see the runner score here.
It was Willy Adames able to make it home, and he also hit his first career home run, which we're gonna show you in a minute.
What do you like about his approach to the plate?
Because I know everyone in this front office is very high on Jesus Rodriguez.
Well, if you just look at it, you know, to the naked eye, like, you're like, "Look at that batting stance.
What is this guy doing?"
I mean, it doesn't look very comfortable.
Looks a little awkward.
But everything, you know, from what I saw in spring training when I was down there, and from talking to my good buddy Randy Winn- Mm-hmm they have the ultimate confidence in this guy that he's gonna hit in the big leagues.
He's hit everywhere he's gone.
He was part of the Camilo Doval trade, with the Yankees.
And, and the positive is that he can play multiple positions.
Like, he's- catching now because I think that's a, a need o- offensively for them, where they- Yeah need some offense.
but he could play around, he could play around the infield.
He could play maybe a little bit outfield.
So I think he's another weapon that you can deploy out there at- Yeah certain times if you're looking for the more offensive side of the game.
But, I mean, listen, I played in that ballpark a long time.
I didn't see many balls go out to right field from a right-handed hitter.
And I mean, he, he, two games here and he's already got one.
and then stays inside of that first hit that he got, stays inside.
Gets a little jam shot, but hits the ball the other way.
I- I- I like what I've seen so far.
now the important thing for him is when there starts to be a scouting report on him, and the other teams get to see video, and they see him the second time- Right then how does he make adjustments?
But for right now, congratulations to him.
First hit.
Mm-hmm.
First homer.
Family's in the stands.
Yep.
Nothing like it.
Always so exciting.
Rodriguez was great in Triple-A this season, was batting .330 with seven extra base hits.
Also notable, though, that Patrick Bailey out of the lineup for the third consecutive game, and Rodriguez in this one started to show what he's capable of at the plate.
Does he continue to start from here on out?
Well, my, my guess would be tomorrow with the day game after the night game, I'd, I think that Patrick Bailey will be back behind the dish.
Sure.
but in the near future, you don't know.
Be- you know, y- you're getting a guy who's pretty much known for offense in Rodriguez, who's had a good offensive year so far, and a guy that's more known for his defense in Bailey.
I mean, you'd kinda like to combine the two, but you can't do that.
Right, if only.
so remains to be seen.
I, I don't know.
I was I'm, personally, I was shocked that Bailey hasn't played in three days.
Mm-hmm.
I don't know if there's a reason or not, or maybe they're just giving him some time to, like, rest his brain and maybe get back into a better state of mind offensively.
I don't know, but we'll see what happens tomorrow when we, when we get here bright and early.
We'll see what the lineup looks like.
Yeah, it's interesting, 'cause talking to Buster Posey yesterday, he talked about how some of the veterans on this team, or an individual like Patrick Bailey, who's not super old, but has been the starter the last couple years, sometimes you need a break for multiple days.
And he said, "No guy wants to do that.
They all want to play 162.
But sometimes it is necessary."
So maybe this is a reset that Patrick Bailey needs.
