Guardians Place Chase DeLauter on IL, Promote Promising Prospect

Chase DeLauter lands on the 10-day injured list, but the Cleveland Guardians also call up one of their more intriguing offensive-minded prospects.

Chase DeLauder officially finds himself on the injured list as a result of that collision with the wall on Saturday evening.

Even though on Tuesday, Stephen Vogt said that, yes, DeLauder had fractured part of the rib, but he was gonna c- be considered day to day and try to play through the pain tolerance.

On Wednesday, the Guardians officially did place him on the IL, which is retroactive back to June 14th.

Now, again, this move does not come as a surprise whatsoever.

Even though DeLauder had not officially landed on the IL, it really felt like this was the path that it was heading towards, not only because of the injury itself and the fact that the Guardians didn't even pinch hit DeLauder in the ninth inning of Tuesday's game, even though it was a one-run game.

Just considering DeLauder's injury and s- the rib being something that can linger throughout the year, it just makes the most sense for the Guardians to get him right right now, even though both Jos Ramrez and ngel Martnez are on the 10-day injured list.

So we'll see how long and what the recovery timeline is for DeLauder, but I do think right now, making sure he's healthy for the rest of the season is the right move by the Guardians.

Now, there are obviously DeLauder ending up in the IL is bad news, but there is some good news with this roster move, and that is that number 12 overall prospect Cleal Watson has been recalled and promoted to the big league level in place of DeLauder, and there is a lot to like about Watson.

In fact, I was saying earlier this week that the Guardian should consider calling up Watson, even if DeLauder didn't end up on the injured list.

He really does have the potential to be an impact bat in the Guardians lineup.

So far this season at Triple-A, he has 12 home runs and 861 OPS.

He has a lot of potential power in his swing.

Now, I do think that expecting him to fill the void of Jos Ramrez, ngel Martnez, Chase DeLauder definitely is expecting a little bit too much of him and especially putting too much pressure on the 23-year-old.

But there is a lot to like about his bat, even though there is, maybe a little bit of a concern with the swing and miss and strikeout rate.

Now, C- Watson is not in Cleveland's starting lineup on Wednesday against the Brewers, but he's with the big league team and looking over the next couple of weeks, he is in line to get quite a few opportunities to show that he belongs at the big league level and can be part of the Guardians' answer for the lack of offense from the outfield.

So a lot of moving pieces for the Guardians still.

It would not be shocking to see more roster moves come in a couple of days.

But as of Tuesday, or as of Wednesday, Chase DeLauder on the 10-day IL, Cleal Watson added to the big league roster to make his MLB debut some point in the next couple of days.
